PROJECT

Margin — annotate anything on the web

A browser extension for scribbling private notes in the margin of any page. Archived, but I still miss it.

Starter content. Replace with a real project, or remove this file.

A browser extension that gave every web page a margin. You could highlight a sentence, scribble a note next to it, and it would still be there the next time you visited — private, local, yours.

What I learned

  • People don’t want a new place for notes; they want notes where they already are. Context beats organisation.
  • Syncing highlights across devices is a genuinely hard problem, and I underestimated it by about a year.
  • An extension that touches every page is a maintenance treadmill. Every browser update is a small emergency.

I archived it because the upkeep outgrew the joy. But I still reach for the keyboard shortcut out of habit, which is the nicest thing I can say about a dead project.
