No. 2026
a dossier

A beautiful game board delivering a hostile investment memo.

Retained

Retained Users

People who come back after the incentive stops. The only honest number in crypto.

What it is

Cohort retention. Not users, not DAU, not addresses — the share of a cohort still active in month three with no reward attached. Everything else on this board can be bought. This cannot.

How you’d recognise it

A retention curve that flattens instead of going to zero.

Worked examples

the retention number that isn’t one

TON’s boosters counter the 87% collapse with one figure: 30–50% seven-day retention for mini-apps embedded in a daily messaging habit. Treat it with suspicion. It is seven-day — not the month-three, no-reward cohort this tier is actually about; it comes from an ecosystem-marketing source; and "opened it again this week" is something a messaging habit produces almost for free. By the only standard that counts on this board, TON has never shown the number. Retention is Tron’s example, below — not TON’s.

  • The quoted figure is 30–50% 7-day (not month-3) retention, from an ecosystem-marketing sourceconfidence lowsource: ton-retentionverified 2026-07-12

Tron, the boring monster

Tron averaged 3.2M daily active users in Q1 2026 — second only to Solana among benchmarked chains — with about 60% of users transacting wallet-to-wallet (not through exchanges). And the tell: Tron's stablecoin supply kept growing through the 2022–23 bear market while Ethereum's contracted. Demand that grows when prices fall is not speculation. It's use.

What it buys

A business.

What it does NOT buy

Applause. Nobody tweets about retention curves.

Verdict

The scoreboard. Everything else is the ball.
