7. Technology-Led and Culture-Led Startups
Startups win by serving a new desire or serving an old desire with new technology.

A culture-led startup detects a new derivative desire created by changing norms; a technology-led startup uses a technical advance to serve an established desire substantially better. Culture creates fresh markets that incumbents may ignore, while technology disrupts existing ones with a cheaper, faster, or better solution. Strong startups often combine both.
Separate the cultural and technical claims inside your idea. What newly acceptable behavior or expectation makes demand possible? What new capability makes your answer superior? Track weak signals—jobs, regulation, funding, habits, and emerging tools—and seek opportunities where both shifts reinforce one another.
