55. Leadership Is Harder Than Compliance
A title can buy obedience; leadership requires sacrifice, mastery, reliability, and lifting others.

Employees following paid instructions does not prove commitment. Paras describes leadership as a demanding combination: long-term sacrifice, self-selection into responsibility, discipline, craft mastery, dependable delivery, direct respect, and the ability to make the whole team better. Missing pieces eventually cap the leader.
Treat leadership as a deliberate career choice, not a reward or identity. Audit behavior against those demands, ask where the team merely complies, and build the weak capabilities through repeated practice. It is valid to choose a less demanding path; it is not coherent to demand leadership’s rewards without its costs.
