cold start lesson

a new ecosystem cold-starts on marquee founders

a few marquee founders and one flagship program start an ecosystem. a long list of mediocre teams does not.

ecosystemcredibility

what to do

When you are bootstrapping an ecosystem, spend your effort landing a few marquee founders and one or two flagship programs. Their presence is the signal every other builder reads. Chase prestige density before you chase headcount.

for example

In 2026 I watched a new ecosystem try to prove momentum with a long list of teams. The list did nothing for its reputation. What moved builders was a small number of respected founders choosing to build there. One name people already trust pulls more weight than fifty they have never heard of.

the failure it prevents

A directory of hundreds of forgettable projects that signals quantity and quietly tells serious builders that nobody serious is here.

when this doesn’t apply

Once the marquee names are in and vouching, volume becomes useful fuel. Early on it is noise.
