a new program borrows credibility
a new accelerator cold-starts on borrowed trust: active vc mentors, warm intros, real user access, and alumni who vouch for you.
what to do
A new program has no track record, so borrow one. Line up VC mentors who actually show up, offer warm intros founders cannot get alone, hand teams real access to users, and build an alumni network that will vouch for the next cohort. Each of these is someone else’s credibility lent to you until you have your own.
for example
Running Nitro and DeltaV, the thing that makes a founder apply is not the logo. It is a mentor they respect taking their call, an intro that opens a door, and past participants who say it was worth the time. I build the program around those borrowed signals until it has earned signals of its own.
the failure it prevents
A program that sells itself on promises, attracts weak teams because strong ones see no proof, and never builds the reputation that would attract strong ones next time.
when this doesn’t apply
Once your alumni outcomes speak for themselves, you lean on your own track record and borrow less.
